New layout; What I used & How I did it!

I hope you all like the new layout, I still might tweak it a bit but overall I'm pretty pleased with how it ended up. If you caught my post from yesterday you already know that I was inspired by a set I found at Pugly Pixel which I found thru Gina at Hiya Luv!

So I started by making myself a seamless background which was my first attempt at this sort of background and I was a bit skeptical that I could actually pull it off because I had been trying to work with backgrounds for awhile now and just kept failing. However by following this awesome tutorial at Pugly Pixel I was able to pull it off in about 3 attempts!

So the above is actually the background image I created using some freebie png clip art files from her site as well, you can find those here. They come in a bunch of different colors I choose the teal, pale purple and a bit of yellow for the banner because I'm doing my best to add some color to my life! The set she made really gave me the inspiration to pull this whole layout together.

Next I went ahead and picked up the cac champagne font from Font Squirrel. I first played around with the different blogger templates and finally decided on Picture window the second version of this in the template designer. Once I did that I went into Template>Customize>Advanced and played with the colors until I got them how I wanted for each section.

Then it was onto the header and I had a few ideas for it already but didn't want to make it over rose filled so I kept it simple and added an old paper background I had downloaded from another Photoshop tutorial I did a few weeks ago.

Once done with that I went on to make new Navigation bar buttons and Follow me buttons with matching font to the header. If you want to learn how to make your own navigation bar I followed this fantastic tutorial over at Ashley Elizabeth's blog.

Now I am pretty amateur when it comes to web design but I must say I am really happy that I buckled down and made a decision on a new layout. I toy with my test blog all the time but never really come up with anything I like well enough to go live with.

I made all my pieces in Photoshop Elements 8 so I'm not sure if you can do it with any other program besides Photoshop because that's all I'm really familiar with.

I hope the links I posted help any of you who are looking to do some work to your blog and if you have any questions I'll try my best to answer them :)

So what do you think of the new layout? Anything I should change?

  3. I thought the roses would be too loud and busy, but the clear-ish clouded middle inside (whatever it's called) really mutes it. It looks nice! Color is good.
