The Body Shop Seaweed Purifying Facial Cleanser

Over the past few months I've been on the lookout for a new skin care regime. My skin has changed a lot since moving here and the new climate and my skin were not getting along, so it was time to change up my old skincare routine.

I searched around for new and affordable alternative to my beloved Lush products and found myself at The Body Shop. After talking to the very helpful sales lady there I decided to try out some products from the Seaweed skin care line. This line is good for people who have oily and combination skin types but is also a bit sensitive to products.

I've been using this product for about four months now and I must say I do like it but it does have some downfalls.

Let’s talk about what I like about this product first though; it does an excellent job of mattifying my skin! If I use this in the morning or before I apply makeup and it does a great job of keeping my skin from getting super oily throughout the day. That was one of the issues I had been struggling with so it gets extra points for doing that in my book.

This product is much gentler than other products that are out there for oily skin right now as it is SLS free. I think it's important to note that this product has not dried out my face after using your skin will feel very soft and smooth. As for consistency it feels like light yogurt because it's just thick enough not to be runny. It has a faint smell that I can't quite put my finger on but I assure you it's not offensive to the nose.

Now for the slight downfall this product has is that it doesn't take off certain types of makeup very well. Mainly liquid foundation it doesn't do much to budge it so I find myself having to use a makeup remover wipe and then this product which really isn't a big deal but it is marketed as a makeup remover and cleanser. I've also found that while it does well to treat existing breakout it doesn't help prevent breakouts. So as soon as a one flare up was healing I found another one would soon follow. This may not be entirely the products fault I do feel I need something a bit stronger anyway since breakouts in those areas have always been a problem for me.

If you’re oily and a bit sensitive but not breaking out I would highly recommend trying this product out it could really make a difference in how oily your skin gets throughout the day. If you’re oily, sensitive, and breaking out I would suggest going with something stronger.

This product is available at The Body Shop in stores and online for $14.50 for 6.76 oz. I think it is a good value especially because you can always catch a sale at The Body Shop when I bought this they were having a buy 2 get 1 free sale so you know I had to buy some other stuff too! I'll be doing quite a few reviews on products from them in the next few months.

What do you think of the Seaweed Purifying Facial Cleanser?

  1. It is always a challenge to find products that are strong enough to do the job, but gentle enough for sensitive skin. Nice thorough review!!!!

  2. I feel like I need to find a really good cleanser since I never have time to do face masks or anything. The seaweed here really appeals to me.

  3. I swear by my Neutrogena facial cleanser. Whenever I try to use something else, it seems to cause me to break out. If you find one that you absolutely LOVE, I'd love to know. :)
