My Glam is now Ipsy

If your a My Glam subscriber you have probably heard the news about their name change. Most of us got our tracking emails this morning and along with our tracking number there was a statement about a name change as well. MyGlam is now going to be known as ipsy...beauty by you. With this name change comes a new beauty quiz which I took and it's quite detailed which I appreciate but we'll have to wait to see what this quiz is going to bring about for the bags in later months.

I must say I'm not a fan of the name change, how does one even pronounce this strange new name or better yet what the heck does it even mean? So off to google I went to see if maybe this was a real word I was just overlooking but it's not. Luckily though Urban Dictionary has the answer:

1.  ipsy Confidently flaunts her own individuality. Has a distinct and unique personal nature.
She carries herself with so much ipsy, she’d make Victoria Beckham jealous.

2. ipsy Acronym for the phrase "I'll pimp slap you." Most commonly used online and in text messages. Often a reaction to something dumb, unrealistic or crazy. Despite it's aggressive tone, this phrase has a friendly tone when used among people familiar with each other.
Jose: "I've got hoes in different area codes!"
Maria: "Different area codes? How many?"
Jose: "Four!"
Maria: "IPSY!"
The first definition isn't so bad but the second one is quite hilarious. I guess they didn't Google the term before hand...

Another term they are coining with this new site, is calling the subscribers Ipsters instead of Glammies. I was never fond of Glammie and I'm less fond of Ipster, it sounds way too close to Hipster in my opinion and well it's not real word.

Now all kidding aside I think the name change was a really bad idea but as long as they continue to send out quality products they can call themselves whatever they want.

What do you think of MyGlam's name change to Ipsy?

  2. Haha, that is too funny about the 2nd definition. I always think it's hilarious when companies change names and the new name is way less appealing than the original. It reminds me of when the Sci-fi channel changed their name it Syfy. No one understood the point.

  8. How you select a name for a company is very important, and Idk how I feel about Ipsy either.... It does have an urban vibe but somehow I would feel like the product/brands they'll feature need to match that as well

  9. I'm canadian, but I have been watching myglam videos out of curiosity. There have been a lot of complaint videos than praises. Perhaps customer unhappiness with shipping time and products and their need to let EVERYONE know online has really tarnished "myglam's" name. Maybe ipsy is a way for them to separate themselves from myglam's negative image. Just speculating.

    1. Yes there was a lot of bad reviews on them after the first few sets of bags went out. I can see why they would want to do that I just wish they would have picked a better name is all, Ipsy just sounds childlike and silly but like I said they can call themselves whatever they want as long as they product quality bags. :)
