New Years Nails using Pigments

If your following me on Instagram you've probably seen these nail looks already. I've been experimenting with different looks that would be New Years worthy. After the holidays I think we all have a feeling of not wanting to spend anymore money or at least not money that isn't gift cards! With that in mind I've put together some simple but stunning nail looks you can do at home using products you already have. I created these looks using nail polish and eye shadow pigments, it's that easy! All you need to do is pick your colors and decided where you want your pigments to fall. I choose the top going down but it looks equally as good from the tip up.

How to:
Start with your base color and apply one coat let it dry and then apply a second coat to the nail, before this coat dries add your pigment.

To get the pigment on I suggest using a brush and gently tapping it on above the nail, never touch the nail with the brush. Once you have the desired amount of pigment let it set a moment and then blow the rest off your finger then seal with a top coat of your choice, shiny or matte they both look great. I recommend doing this one nail at a time so you don't have your second coat  drying on you before you add your pigment.

The great thing about this
technique is while it is messy it is very unique and you'll get interesting nails no matter how much or how little pigment you add. When blowing the pigment off I like to go in the direction I want the pigment to fade into and this really helps make sure you are not left with a harsh line.

If you don't have any pigments on hand crushing up an old eye shadow or using cosmetic glitter would also work really well. I think next I'll pick up some glitter and see what I can't come up with!

  1. Experiments gone right! They are all lovely, and while I'd like to vote for the darker colors, I think for New Year's the gold one (first pic) looks the best.

  2. I would definitely love to try this because I hate glitter nail polish...it is a b!tch to remove... This is gorgeous with a nice ombre look :)
