Ipsy Glam Bag September 2013

Purchased By Me Referral Links
I wish I could say that I'm excited about this bag but I'm just simply not. This is the Ipsy Glam Bag for September 2013 and there were a few different variations this month. I think that out of the variations I've seen this is by far the least value and kind of a dud bag. I don't usually have to worry about value when it comes to Ipsy but since they started doing bag variations it has become an issue for me and many others. I will go into that in more detail below lets get on to the contents of this bag.

This months' theme is Classic Beauty

NYX Eyeshadow Single in Sparkle White
I think this is full size but I'm not 100% certain I haven't been able to find a size for it online. I like NYX so this is a welcome edition.

It's So Big! Mascara by Elizabeth Mott
I haven't heard of this brand before and I just received another mascara last month that I haven't had a chance to crack open yet so it will take me a minute to get to this. This is a deluxe sample size I would say and its in black.

Starlooks Kohl Eyeliner in Obsidian
I actually need a new black liner I just ran out of my tried and true UD so I'm looking forward to giving this one a spin.

John Freida Full Repair Shampoo and Conditioner
Sigh really Ipsy John Freida? You can do better I know you can. I don't mind drugstore products but this really brings down the bag in my opinion.

Extra
EM by Michelle Phan Sample Card
These colors look nice but you can't really get a good feel for a product from a sample card.

The companies that were featured this month were Butter London, Cailyn, Chella, Freeman beauty, John Freida, Elizabeth Mott, J. Cat Beauty, Jesse's Girl, NYX Pop Beauty, Skyn Iceland, Starlooks, and Victoria Jackson.

There are a few bag variations this month and while I'm not sure as to the number I'm sure mine is one of the most disappointing. When Ipsy first started doing variations I was okay with it because it was mostly colors or one or two products now it seems as they grow so are the number of variations. I kind of like to be able to get the same bag as everyone else without having too much bag envy, one of the reasons I ditched Birchbox was because they had too many different boxes and the values varied largely. I don't want Ipsy to become a bag full of many variations because in my experience when this happens the value in the bags is lessened. While some people get the most desired products and others get left overs from other months and less valued items. I understand that not all companies want to offer up the number of products to Ipsy subscriber ratio but I think they can find a happy balance if they include at least one like value big ticket item in each bag.

So there is my plea to Ipsy please don't become a giant bag of variations, I like you just the way you are.

What do you think of the September 2013 Ipsy Glam Bag?

  1. IMO any bag/box with shampoo/conditioner is usually a dud bag! Exception would be my NBTT which I am actually digging the shampoo/conditioner, but for me, those products just normally don't do it. Your bag is pretty meh, I agree. It almost makes my birchbox this month look good!

    1. I agree I'm not pleased when I see a shampoo and conditioner combo from a drugstore brand if it would have been say living proof I would have been all for it. Something like that would have even made this bag desirable imo

  2. Oh no! I'm so sorry that you're disappointed in your bag this month. I haven't gotten mine yet, but from what I'm seeing everywhere I'm not sure if I am going to be too thrilled either. Hey! At least the bag is cute. :)

    1. I hope you do too :) Thanks I thought it might be but I don't have one for myself it's been a minute since I've seen one in person.

  4. Sorry, Ipsy...for you to include a brand like UD or Butter London in some bags and give everyone else the cheapie goods (as you've done for a couple of months now) is just CRAPPY! And nothing against JF, but that set is a dud item in my opinion. If you wanted to try those out you could get them from the travel bin for a buck apiece. :/

    1. This is exactly how I feel! JF just can't compete with the higher end brands I hope Ipsy stops with the crazy combinations.

  5. Totally agree bc I feel the exact same way hun! There's too many variations and everyone should be treated fairly in regards to that one hot "it" item in their bags! Can I tweet this post to Ipsy? Lol, I'm serious! Xx

    1. I think a lot of people do too and I hope they take that into consideration for future bags. I really don't want them to become like Birchbox because if they do I know I will cancel. You can tweet this to them if you want, I'm sure this isn't the first they are hearing of it though. They usually listen to their customer base so fingers crossed they will continue to listen. I know they are a business first and it's all about making money but I don't think that they have been living up to their reputation as of late.

  7. I agree w/u! Shampoo & conditioner in any bag is disappointing.. I just signed up for Ipsy a few days ago and I'm on a wait list. I'm actually looking forward to getting these bags. I will most likely cancel my Birchbox membership, ESP after this months hugely disappointing box. They gave me a no name shampoo & conditioner and also foil packets. I hate foil packets! Also they gave me nipple balm, yes nipple/can be used as lip balm too. I am soo disappointed. At least ur shampoo is by John Frieda.. :-)

    1. That was one of the reasons I cancelled Birchbox myself foil packets and way too many no name hair products. It was like every month I was either getting hair stuff or a liquid eyeliner (and I hate liquid liner). For the price Ipsy is the better choice as long as they get a handle on all these variations.
