Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Damned

True blood has been one of my favorite shows since I stumbled upon season 1  two years ago and I've been hooked ever since. If you have not seen the show go out and get Season One I promise you wont be disappointed. Currently there are 4 seasons so far with the fourth one just ending two Sundays ago /cry, good news is they start working on Season 5 soon. Anyway out of all the characters Vampire Pam has got to be one of my favorites. In an episode in Season 3 called Beautifully Broken Vampire Pam is spotted putting on Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Damned. When I was at Sephora a few weeks ago  I saw it and instantly thought of how good it looked on Vampire Pam so I had to have it.

I'm really glad I picked this up it is a little expensive for a lipstick ($24 at Sephora) but the quality is definitely worth it. I've never really been a big lipstick person but I've recently started trying it out just for something different in my makeup routine. The color payoff on this is excellent really pigmented and just a beautiful magenta shade. I find it really convenient that its a lip liner and a lipstick all in one, I'm horrible at matching lipstick with lip liners and this takes all the guess work out. Once applied to lips it lasts threw eating and drinking and I think its also important to note that with this color on your less likely to leave kiss marks all over your partner since it has great staying power. Towards the end of your day when it does finally start to give way your left with a nice stain that still looks good just a lighter version of itself. I love that its a matte shade because you get a nice smooth look on your lips that is intense with color and not chalky looking. I think this would be great for all skin tones especially if you like really bold colors, I'm super pale and I really like the intensity it has on me. Before applying this I do suggest that you exfoliate your lips (Sugar Scrub anyone?) if your lips are dry it will stick in those flaky spots and look clumpy. Once on it does feel slightly dry but not like those cream lipsticks that feel like you put paste on your lips and let it dry, more of a flat dry and not tight feeling. I either use a lip primer or some lip balm to correct this problem.  The only thing I don't really like about this pencil is that it does not fit into my normal sharpeners, Nars does make a sharpener with an adapter for it ($6 at Sephora) but at the time I didn't think about it and the Sephora SA didn't try to sell it to me, shame on you for not trying to get me to spend more money haha. So that is a bit annoying but I'd rather have the right size sharpener for it than ruin it with one that isn't the right fit. After doing a bit of research a lot of people say that the NYX sharpener works well with it because they also make stick lipstick and eye pencils but I do not have that one either so I don't know for sure how well it works with this one.

If your looking for a new lip product give this one a try it has great color payoff and is a lipstick and lip liner in one which makes it super convenient. I can see this becoming a staple in my makeup collection for a long time.
